Different Types Of Massages And Their Benefits

Posted on

Massage therapy provides a number of benefits, including relaxation and pain relief. However, if you are new to this type of therapy, you may be a bit overwhelmed when you see a list of the different types of massages available to you. If you are uncertain as to which massage is best suited to your individual situation, keep reading to learn about the different massages and how they can benefit you.

Swedish Massage

This particular type of massage essentially creates the foundation for a lot of the massages. The Swedish massage calls for the massage therapist to perform soft and long kneading strokes, along with some light, tapping strokes every now and then. This massage is great if you need to relax. The Swedish massage can help relieve pain, reduce anxiety and depression, rejuvenate sore muscles, and provide a full-body experience.

Deep Tissue Massage

This massage is very similar to that of the Swedish massage except it consists of deeper pressure so that it is able to release muscular tension more effectively. During this massage, the therapist will apply pressure to multiple layers of muscle, tissues, and tendons. A deep tissue massage can help with chronic pain relief, carpal tunnel syndrome, neck and back strain, and sports pain relief.

Hot Stone Massage

This massage consists of the use of warmed stones. A massage therapist will place the stones on key points of your body, resulting in a warming effect that will essentially melt away the body's stress as it is massaged. This massage is good for pain relief, muscle relaxation, increased circulation, improved flexibility, decreased anxiety, and ease of mental stress.

Trigger Point Massage

The trigger point massage is designed for pain relief and to help balance the body from head to toe. The massage therapist will press in rhythm on specific areas of the body to find the nodules. Once these nodules are located, the therapist will apply gentle pressure to release the tissue that is irritated. This type of massage is very beneficial for individuals who suffer from certain conditions or injuries, such as chronic joint pain, migraines, rotator cuff injuries, shin splints, plantar fasciitis, and sciatica pain.

There are many other forms of massage other than those listed above. Some examples include sports, prenatal, stretch, aromatherapy, and cupping massages. Each massage has its own benefits. For more information on the different types of massage and which one may be best suited for you, contact a massage therapist near you.
